Processor biasa disebut sebagai Otak dan Pusat pengendali/ central pengendali Computer yang didukung oleh komponen lain. Ibarat Pemain bola ada sebelas pemain saling membantu hingga bisa sukses. Processor adalah sebuah IC yang mengontrol keseluruhan jalannya sebuah sistem komputer dan digunakan sebagai pusat atau otak dari komputer yang berfungsi untuk melakukan perhitungan dan menjalankan tugas dengan cepat. Processor diletakkan pada socket yang disediakan di Mothrboard, dan bisa dipasangkan processor yang lain asalkan socketnya cocok dengan apa yang disediakan di Motherboard. Kecepatan komputer mengolah data, salah satunya dipengaruhi oleh kapasitas processor yang digunakan pada komputer. Processor itulah chipnya komputer, yang biasa juga disebut "Microprocessor" yang sekarang sudah mencapai Gigahertz (GHz). Ukuran Mega/ GHz adalah hitungan kecepatan processor dalam mengolah data atau informasi.

Beberapa MEREK PROCESSOR Dipasaran adalah : AMD, Cyrix VIA, Apple, VIA, IBM, IDT, dan Intel, dll. Bagian dari Processor bagian terpenting dari prosessor terbagi 3, yaitu : Aritmatics Logicals Logical Unit (ALU), Control Unit (CU), Memory Unit (MU).
